'Brilliant: Cartier In The 20th Century' Now Open At Denver Art Museum

DENVER (CBS4) - "Brilliant: Cartier in the 20th Century" debuted Sunday at the Denver Art Museum and it showcases one of the most iconic names in jewelry.

"People think about glamour," said Pierre Rainero, Director of Image and Heritage at Cartier.

"We want to look at how Cartier shaped some of the ideas of style, of glamour during the 20th century," Denver Art Museum Director Christoph Heinrich said.

Inspired by different cultures, Cartier revolutionized Western jewelry with colorful stones and platinum settings.

"I think there's an incredible quality linked to the Cartier people; it's curiosity," Rainero said.

The brilliant exhibit will take museum visitors on a journey from royalty to the art of smoking and men's objects.

"Brilliant" has all the sparkle and bling from some of Cartier's most historic, iconic and stylish pieces, including some from Hollywood's biggest leading ladies, such as Grace Kelly's 10-carat engagement ring.

"Glamorous personalities through history," Rainero said.

And tiaras from around the world.

"Sparkling or shining like never before."

To the 1,000-carat, jaw-dropping necklace.

"It is said that this necklace had to be important because (Yadavindra Singh, Maharajah of Patiala) wanted to be seen with this necklace while he was sitting on his elephant," Rainero said.

Plenty of time is needed to take in "Brilliant." With over 250 pieces in an incredible setting, visitors will never forget the history, culture and style.

The Cartier exhibit is open now and runs through March 15 at the Denver Art Museum. Tickets are $15 for members and start at $25 for adult non-members.
