Man Held On Murder Charges After Overnight Shooting Of 2 Women
DENVER (CBS4) - A 22-year-old man is being held on murder charges after the overnight shooting deaths of two women at a southeast Denver apartment. Investigators say the suspect is the roommate of one of the victims and are trying to figure out the motive in the deadly shootings.
Police responded to the French Quarter apartments, on the 3200 block of Parker Road, at 11:10 p.m. Wednesday after reports of a shooting.
"It was just like a normal night. I thought people had walked around the neighborhood, thrown some fireworks or something," said neighbor Ashley Larranga.
When officers arrived they found the victims on the second floor.
Police say the suspect's name is Jose King. A photo of him is not being released at this time.
Denver Police tweeted that one of the victims in the shooting is King's roommate. The other victim is a friend of the roommate.
The names of the deceased have not been released. They were described as being 19 and 22 years old.
The suspect's family led police to King, 22. Police in Castle Rock received a 911 call from concerned family and friends of King. Family members believed King was suicidal so they asked police to keep a lookout for his vehicle, a dark-colored SUV.
"The parties that called were concerned about his mental state and that he may commit suicide or something based on statements," said Castle Rock Police Commander Ron Saunier.
Police in Castle Rock spotted the SUV and questioned King. They say after interviewing him they connected the dots and realized he was involved in the murders.
King knew the women, according to police.
King was transported to Denver Police headquarters where he is being held on two counts of first-degree murder.
Many neighbors told CBS4 they heard the shots, and they say they alarmed by what happened.
"I feel absolutely terrible. I take my dog around this neighborhood every single day and I talk to the people who live here," said Larranga. "It really is a great community, and to see this happen here is a tragedy."
"It actually has us concerned about living here," Jorge Bazan said. "We want to be safe, but you never know what could happen next."
King is being held in the Denver Jail on two counts of first degree murder.
