Investigation Into Missing Broncos Fan Turned Over To Team

DENVER (CBS4) - As the mystery surrounding a Kremmling man who went missing at last Thursday night's Broncos game remains unsolved, police say they are now only involved in the search to a certain degree.

Denver police said staff at Sports Authority Field at Mile High are reviewing security video from the game to determine if there are any clues into the disappearance of Paul Kitterman.

"They are looking at it. Basically, it they see something alarming they'll let us know," police spokesman Sonny Jackson said.

On Tuesday, the security director at the stadium said they've handed the investigation over to the Broncos. The Broncos didn't return calls or emails for comment.

Kitterman, 53, traveled to the game from Kremmling with his stepson Jarod Tonneson and some friends. At halftime Tonneson took a bathroom break and when he returned Kitterman was gone.

"Paul wasn't there," Tonneson told CBS4.

More than 70,000 fans were at the game, and Tonneson said they were in Section 230 in the south stands. The group had plans to meet outside gate 8 at the stadium. After it was clear Kitterman was gone, Tonneson began a search along with the couple they had traveled to the game with.

"We ended up driving around, through all the parking lots, all the nearby areas, stuff like that, to see if we could see him and just ... nothing," Tonneson said. "And we were there till 1:30."

Since then police and family members have checked with local hospitals, jails and detox centers but so far there's no sign of Kitterman.

Kitterman tends to shy away from large crowds, but Tonneson said the game was something they felt they couldn't miss.

"He was super excited. He was just amazed," Tonneson said.

Kitterman didn't have a cellphone at the game.

Police said that while the disappearance is strange, there's always the chance Kitterman doesn't want to be found.

"Adults have free will and free choice and there's no crime against going missing," Jackson said.

Tonneson said he's unsure police are doing an adequate job searching for Kitterman: "It's definitely not as much as we'd like them to."

The Grand County Sheriff's Department said it's been in contact with Denver police, but it hasn't found any signs of Kitterman in the county.

Brooklyn's, a popular gameday bar near the stadium, has placed a missing persons flyer in their window with Kitterman's picture on it.

Anyone who saw Kitterman at the game, or who has seen him since, is asked to contact police at 720-913-2000.
