Car-Jacking Suspect: 'I Wanted To Kill Myself,' Deputy Testifies

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - A car-jacking and sex-trafficking suspect who led deputies on a wild crime spree this summer told law enforcement he thought about killing himself because he didn't want to return to prison, according to court testimony.

Deputy Sheriff J.F. Hady, one of the arresting officers, testified that Christopher Sullivan said after his arrest, "I wanted to kill myself today. I didn't want to go back to jail."

Investigators said Sullivan said he had stashed in a stolen car some AR-15 ammunition magazines, a smoke bomb, military-grade bullet-proof vests and a Kevlar helmet.

Sullivan also allegedly said he thought of killing the deputy who first pulled him over.

Hady testified Sullivan said he bought a police car because he needed a faster vehicle: "I figured I would even the odds if you guys were going to be chasing me," Sullivan said, according to Hady.

Prosecutors say Sullivan, 37, stole at least three cars during a chase along Interstate 70 on July 23. He was arrested with a 17-year-old girl whom police later said was lured by Sullivan into a potential sex-trafficking role.
