Crews Hope To Open Trail Ridge Road By Saturday

ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK, Colo. (AP) — Transportation officials clearing two- to three-foot snow drifts from Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park hope to have the iconic route opened by this weekend.

Park spokeswoman Kyle Patterson says snowplow drivers are battling icy conditions and low visibility, but it does not appear that the storm will close the road for the season.

The route is billed as the highest continuous paved road in the United States, reaching 12,183 feet above sea level. Historically, it closes in late October and reopens on Memorial Day weekend.
