Police Believe Suspect, Victim Both Were Drinking In Fort Collins Hit & Run

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4) - Police are investigating if alcohol was a factor in a hit-and-run crash in downtown Fort Collins.

The crash happened early Saturday morning in the 100 block of North College Avenue. Witnesses said an SUV hit a pedestrian and then the driver fled.

Twenty minutes later police were able to locate the vehicle traveling south on College Avenue and arrested Dillon Moss, 21, who they believe was behind the wheel.

The pedestrian, identified as Dalton Zerlan, 32, of Fort Collins, was being treated for serious injuries.

"Zerlan was crossing mid-block and was not in a crosswalk. He was taken to Medical Center of the Rockies for treatment of serious injuries," Drew Jurkofsky with Fort Collins Police Services said in a statement.

The northbound lanes of College Avenue were closed between Mountain and LaPorte avenues for approximately 4 hours for the investigation.

Police believe both Moss and Zerlan had been drinking, which may have contributed to the crash.

So far no charges have been filed.
