Woman Dies Three Weeks After Head-On Crash

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - A woman critically injured in a head-on crash in Aurora last month has died, and the suspect is at large.

On Aug. 24, police said Elias Bautista-Lopez was traveling eastbound in a westbound lane on Colfax Avenue at Macon Street when his blue Dodge struck the victim's vehicle, a silver Hyundai. Police said another car swerved to avoid the suspect's car before the Hyundai was hit.

The victim's name hasn't been released.

Police said they suspected Bautista-Lopez was driving drunk. He was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Bautista-Lopez, 26, is described as Hispanic, 5 feet tall and weighing 145 pounds. He is wanted for vehicular assault, but police are seeking vehicular homicide charges. Before police could arrest him, he moved from his home.

Anyone with information about Bautista-Lopez's location is asked to call Aurora police at 303-739-6368.

Investigators said excessive speed was not suspected as a factor in the crash.

"This crash is yet another reminder for drivers to always wear seat belts. Seat belts are your best protection against serious injury or death in a crash," a police spokesman said.
