1 Under Arrest, 1 In Hospital After Car Plows Into Westminster Garage

WESTMINSTER, Colo. (CBS4) - A driver was arrested early Thursday morning after their speeding car knocked down a fence and slammed into the garage of a Westminster home.

The crash happened just after 2:15 a.m. on the 5400 block of 117th Avenue, near Chase Way, and one person was taken to the hospital.

Police said Jeffery Holmes, 27, was behind the wheel. He now faces vehicular assault and reckless driving charges.

Investigators said the black sedan Holmes was in came up on sidewalk and then hit the fence and a tree and then drove into the home's garage's door and came to a stop. When the car hit the structure it also severed a gas line.

The homeowner, Louise Guiterrez, was asleep at the time and wasn't hurt.

"I just heard this horrendous crash," she said. "So I just immediately jumped out of bed and came downstairs."

Erik Sober, a neighbor, told CBS4 he came outside after the crash and saw a chaotic scene which included a fight and a young man who was hurt.

"There was a fight going on. There was a kid laying, bleeding pretty bad in the driveway," he said. "I went to talk to him and see if he was okay and that's when I noticed the gas line was broken."
