Man Linked To 2001 Rape Gets 16 Years To Life

DENVER (AP) – A man convicted of sexually assaulting a woman after a DNA sample taken when he was arrested on other charges more than a decade later linked him to the attack has been sentenced to 16 years to life in prison.

The Denver District Attorney’s Office says 46-year-old Eddie Simon was sentenced Monday. A jury convicted him in April of two counts of sexual assault.

Simon was linked to a February 2001 attack in which a 20-year-old woman was raped at knife point in Denver. The victim escaped, but no suspect was identified at the time.

Last year, Simon was arrested on felony drug charges and a DNA sample was taken.
