Protesters Duel Over Terry Maketa In Springs

COLORADO SPRING, Colo. (CBS4) - Dueling protests over embattled El Paso County Sheriff Terry Maketa formed in front of the sheriff's office on Thursday.

The drama surrounding Maketa grew more intense Thursday when the local Gazette newspaper reported a civil lawsuit has been filed.

It claims Maketa and undersheriff Paula Presley lied about a stolen internal affairs file on a previous candidate running for office.

If that's true, Maketa and the undersheriff could face criminal charges.

Maketa is embroiled in scandal over several alleged affairs with subordinates. He has admitted what he called "inappropriate behavior," but he has refused to step down. He could only be removed from office through a recall.
