Heavy Rains Cause Flooding In Loveland Area
FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) — Heavy rains inundated the foothills region and the city of Loveland.
To the south, a flash-flood warning was issued Friday for Fremont, El Paso, Teller and Pueblo counties, though most warning had expired by later in the evening.
U.S. 24 was closed in both directions west of Manitou Springs. Ditches in Manitou Springs were reported full but not overflowing, but sirens sounded in the town.
In the Loveland area, the National Weather Service issued a series of flash-flood warnings Friday night, the first for the Four Mile burn area and Gold Hill.
A second flash-flood warning included southeast Larimer County, west and north Loveland, and the foothills west of Loveland. That warning was later extended eastward to include Windsor and Berthoud.
Loveland was hit especially hard hit with the city saying some areas had received 5½ inches of rain by 9:45 p.m. Many roads were flooded and residents were told via Twitter to stay off the streets.
Just before 9 p.m., the weather service was reporting 1 feet to 2 feet of water flowing over the intersection of Wilson Avenue and West First Street in Loveland.
