DENVER (CBS4) – An 11-year-old boy was killed in a hit-and-run while trying to cross the street Sunday night.
The incident occurred around 8 p.m. when the boy was trying to cross at West Colfax Avenue and Federal Boulevard.
According to police the suspect is Oswaldo Lopez. Lopez, 21, was arrested in Aurora early Monday morning and police said they also recovered the vehicle they believe he was driving at the time of the hit-and-run.
According to police, evidence that was left at the scene led them to Lopez.
“Evidence that remained on the scene and there was some additional witnesses that stuck around,” Lt. Robert Rock with Denver police said.
Because of the 6th Avenue closure there was likely more traffic on West Colfax Avenue.
Officers said they don’t believe alcohol to be a factor in this case but are still investigating.
