Olympic Experience Likely Over For Steamboat Springs Snowboarder Arielle Gold

KRASNAYA POLYANA, Russia (CBS4) - The Olympics experience in Sochi, Russia, is likely over for snowboarder Arielle Gold of Steamboat Springs.

Gold, 17, was expected to be a medal contender. She crashed in practice before the Snowboard Women's Halfpipe Qualification Heats on Wednesday at Rosa Khutor Extreme Park.

U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association officials said Gold hurt her shoulder. The Associated Press reported she was initially put on a stretcher but walked off under her own power.

The Denver Post reported that Gold's brother Taylor Gold, 21, also a snowboarder, crashed on the halfpipe on Tuesday night in the semifinals and didn't advance to the finals. He wound up finishing 14th.
