Furniture Store Customers Score Big In Super Bowl Promotion

FORT MORGAN, Colo. (CBS4) – A furniture store in Northern Colorado is recording some big losses, but it's not all that upset about it. The store is refunding customers hundreds of thousands of dollars since Super Bowl Sunday.

For the second year in a row, Fort Morgan Furniture Mart owner Josh Becker offered customers cash back if -- and only if -- Super Bowl contenders scored on a rare play.

"I thought the odds of this happening again were just not good," Becker said. "It can't happen twice in a row."

But it did when the Seattle Seahawks scored a kickoff return for a touchdown at the start of the game's second half.

"I replayed it on my DVR because I thought, 'What just happened?' And sure enough, I mean that was a great play for them but really bad for the Broncos," customer Gayle Steffen said.

"Oh well, we got a free mattress," customer Jerry Bills said.

The money shoppers got back gave Broncos fans a silver lining after the loss.

Steffen is one of more than 60 customers who got all their money back on furniture bought during the promotion.

"You start thinking about what you're going to do with that $3,000, and of course I want more furniture," Steffen said.

Becker had an insurance policy that covered the big payoff, so the only money he was out is the insurance premium.
