Rocky Mountain Park Considers Bikes On Lake Trail

ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK, Colo. (AP) — Rocky Mountain National Park is considering allowing bicycles on a 2-mile-long section of the East Shore Trail along Shadow Mountain Lake.

Park officials said Tuesday they will hold public meetings on the proposal on Feb. 11 in Grand Lake and Feb. 24 in Boulder. Public comments on the proposal will be accepted until March 3.

The trail is on the park's west side.

The proposal calls for minor changes in the trail, including rerouting part of it to improve safety and avoid impacts on natural resources.

The trail is currently open to hikers and livestock but not bicycles.

The plan is outlined in an environmental assessment available at http://parkplanning.nps.gov/romo .
