DENVER (AP/CBS4) – Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper ordered that flags be lowered to half-staff at all public buildings in the state on Wednesday to honor an Air Force captain who was killed in Afghanistan.
Capt. David Lyon of Sandpoint, Idaho, was killed in Kabul on Dec. 27 when an improvised explosive device was detonated near his convoy.
He was assigned to the 21st Logistics Readiness Squadron at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs.
Lyon was married to Dana Lyon, who also attended the Air Force Academy and is a captain in the Air Force who is serving in Afghanistan. The two saw each other on Christmas, shortly before David’s death.
Lyon’s funeral will be held in Colorado Springs on Wednesday afternoon.
