Chez Jay on Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica, California is a wonder. A local watering hole catering to both locals and celebs, it has been a fixture on Ocean Avenue for over 50 years. Yes, it is a dive. But the atmosphere is wonderful, the clientele is fascinating and the food is sublime. I absolutely adored the sand dabs and the steak cut like butter. I have rarely had a better piece of beef. Chez Jay is known for its steak and seafood, its regular celebrity visits and the atmosphere, which is second to none as far as I am concerned. Ask Mike the owner about Lee Marvin and the night he left his Oscar under Table 10, Warren Beatty and the "Shampoo" auditions, Marilyn Monroe hanging out before his visits to Peter Lawford's Santa Monica beach house and more. The stories are endless.
I adore it. It is now my favorite joint.
