CENTENNIAL, Colo. (CBS4) – Claire Davis, the 17-year-old victim of the Arapahoe High School shooting, passed away from her injuries Saturday afternoon around 4:29 p.m.
A statement from Littleton Adventist Hospital said “despite the best efforts of our physicians and nursing staff, and Claire’s fighting spirit, her injuries were too severe and the most advanced medical treatments could not prevent this tragic loss of life.”
The statement also said that Claire’s family would like to thank everyone who sent her best wishes and prayers and is grateful for the kindness and the support of the community.
Saturday evening the Davis family released a statement that said “the grace, laughter and light Claire brought to this world will not be extinguished by her death; to the contrary, it will only get stronger.”
Dozens of people came out to Arapahoe High School Saturday night to pay their respects, pray and show their support for the Davis family.
The fence that was covered with messages of hope for the family has now become a memorial.
“You’re praying for things to get better and they don’t,” said a student.
“I just want her to know that we love her and her family. We’re sending her up with love,” said another student.
Information regarding a public celebration of Claire’s life will be announced at a future date.
