Vandals Strike Longmont Ice Rink, Boulder Ice Rink Won’t Open This Year

LONGMONT, Colo. (CBS4) – The Longmont Ice Pavilion had to be closed after vandals damaged the ice.

The ice was damaged after someone put Ice Melt on the ice.

The rink was set to open on Tuesday but the problem was spotted last Monday. Crews had to start the ice making process over.

The rink will open sometime next week.

The damage was estimated at $20,000 in loss of business and repairs.

The ice rink in Boulder is closed for the season. The rink at 1 Boulder Plaza has canceled its entire season of outdoor skating because of mechanical issues. The problem can’t be fixed in time for a 2013 opening. They’re planning to open next November.
