Officials Close Independence Pass For The Season
ASPEN, Colo. (CBS4) - Officials with the Colorado Department of Transportation say Independence Pass is now closed for the season.
The 18 mile stretch of Highway 82 which runs from Aspen to Twin Lakes is scheduled to close for the winter on Nov. 7 each year but it sometimes closes early.
This year officials shut down the highway on Oct. 31 due to snowy conditions and it hasn't reopened. Now, it will remain closed until next spring.
"Due to the snowfall and adverse conditions, as well as another storm in the forecast for tonight and tomorrow, the season closure is now in place," officials wrote in a prepared release on Monday morning.
