Red Cross Of Alaska Deploys Helpers To Colorado

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - The American Red Cross of Alaska says one official and two volunteers from the state are helping people affected by floods in Colorado.

Red Cross officials say Kelley McGuirk will deploy Saturday to the Denver area as the assistant director of recovery operations.

Alaska-based Red Cross volunteers Dave Williams and George Kirschner also are involved in the Colorado relief effort.

Williams was deployed last week. Spokeswoman Laura Spano says Kirschner is gearing up to go.

Last month's floods killed nine people, damaged or destroyed nearly 2,000 homes and washed out hundreds of miles of roads.
