Denver Officer Honored For Helping Turn Teen's Life Around
DENVER (CBS4) - A Denver police officer was honored on Wednesday for helping turn a teenager's life around.
Officer Tim Scudder received the Citizens Appreciate Police Award. Eleven years ago he got a call from a desperate mother begging for help after her 14-year-old son got involved with a gang.
The woman's son, Shane, had moved from California to Colorado to live with his grandmother but ran away. Officer Scudder was able to locate the teen and make sure he made it back to California.
"From that day forward, Sheila calls me on his birthday every year and tells me how Shane is doing and that he's gone onto graduate from high school, gone onto get a job."
Shane is now 25 years old and doing well. His mother says Scudder really helped save her son's life.
