Holmes Wants To Raise Issues After Sanity Report

DENVER (AP) — Attorneys for Colorado theater shooting defendant James Holmes are asking the judge to let them file more motions now that they have received Holmes' sanity evaluation from the state mental hospital.

Deadlines for filing pretrial motions have passed. But in a request made public Thursday, defense lawyers said they want to raise unspecified legal issues stemming from the sanity report.

Holmes pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to multiple charges of murder and attempted murder. He's accused of killing 12 people and injuring 70 in a suburban Denver theater in July 2012.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

Separately, defense lawyers asked the judge to stop court officials from posting documents in the case online. They say such easy public access to the documents could influence potential jurors.
