Herpin Qualifies For Ballot To Challenge Morse

DENVER (AP) - Former Colorado Springs City Councilman Bernie Herpin has made the ballot to challenge state Senate President John Morse in a recall election Sept. 10.

The Colorado Secretary of State's office said Wednesday that Republican Bernie Herpin submitted 1,411 valid signatures to qualify for the ballot. He needed to gather 1,000 signatures from eligible Republicans within the district to make it.

Morse and fellow Democrat and Sen. Angela Giron are facing recall elections over support for new gun legislation that expanded background checks and limited the size of ammunition magazines.

Former Pueblo police officer George Rivera has already qualified for the ballot to challenge Giron.
