Woman Charged With Hiding Weapon In Child Shooting Case

DENVER (CBS4)- A woman has been charged with hiding the weapon used to shoot an 8-year-old boy earlier this spring.

Marina Pena was charged Wednesday with tampering with physical evidence and possession of a weapon by a previous offender.

On April 20 gunshots were fired at a car that was traveling northbound on S. Knox Court, injuring the young boy who was a passenger in the backseat of the car.

Paul Lovato was charged on June 17 with six counts of criminal attempt to commit murder in the first degree, assault in the first degree and illegal discharge of a firearm.

The charges allege that Lovato, 21, fired the shots that injured the boy and that Pena, 22, his girlfriend, later had possession of the gun at her house during the police investigation.

Pena has been released from custody on a $2,000 bond. She is scheduled to appear in Denver County Court on July 30 for her second advisement.

Lovato remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in Denver County Court on July 30 for a preliminary hearing.
