Police: Driver Crashes Into Gun Shop After Parking Spot Blocked

WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. (CBS4)- Police said a man crashed his truck into a gun shop after he found his favorite parking space blocked by a delivery truck.

The man drove to the Silver Bullet Shooting Range at 5901 West 38th in Wheat Ridge just after 8 a.m. Wednesday and found a Pepsi truck blocking his regular parking spot.

When that delivery truck driver didn't move, police said the driver, David Kennedy, made a series of decisions that ended up with him losing control of his vehicle.

Police said he got back into his truck, pulled out onto 38th, did a u-turn, spun out and crashed through the front door of the gun shop.

"The driver pulled in and he looked for his usual parking space and a Pepsi truck was blocking the space and he was yelling and honking at the driver, telling him to move and he gunned the car and hit a tree and came around and ran back into the store," said Wheat Ridge Police spokesman John Romero.

Police ticketed Kennedy, 70, for reckless driving and no proof of insurance.

CBS4's Suzanne McCarroll talked with Kennedy. He was not hurt but didn't want to make any sort of comment.

"It appears there were people in the store at the time of the crash," said Romero.

No one was hurt in the crash. The business had to close for several hours because it suffered structural damage. There is no estimate on when it will reopen.
