DENVER (CBS4/AP) — Authorities are investigating after a Buckley Air Force Base airman was shot to death and another was injured in a popular area of downtown Denver as nearby bars were closing for the night.
Police spokesman Sonny Jackson said in a news release that officers were called to the area of 15th and Market streets just after 2 a.m. Saturday and found a man, identified as Shaquille Hargrove, 19, with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Jackson says Hargrove was shot during a “disturbance” involving a large group of people. He did not release any information about a suspect.
There were several fights going on unrelated to the shooting. There was already a heavy police presence in the area, but the shooter escaped.
A news release from Buckley Air Force Base east of Denver confirmed the death and injury.
There are surveillance cameras in the block that are being reviewed. Police are hoping witnesses will also come forward with video and pictures to help find a suspect.
“Each camera is going to give us a piece of information. so if we can get the video and the witnesses to come forward with what they saw then that will help with those cameras and things like that,” Jackson said. “You may not get everything you want on one camera, but you get information from one to another to another to piece together a good piece of information that might help us lead to who did this. “
