No Charges For Denver Officer In April Shooting

DENVER (AP) — The Denver district attorney says an officer who shot and wounded a man wielding scissors at a home for military veterans was justified in his actions and won't face criminal charges.

District Attorney Mitchell Morrissey said in a letter Friday that Cpl. Kevin Dreyfuss showed courage and "great restraint."

Dreyfuss went to the residential facility April 29 after its office manager reported a man with schizophrenia had threatened to kill himself. Morrissey writes Dreyfuss shot the man with a non-lethal weapon after the man kept advancing toward Dreyfuss with the scissors. After the man allegedly still kept advancing, Dreyfuss shot the man with a handgun in the torso, right hand and left arm.

Morrissey says Dreyfuss made every effort to resolve the situation without injuring anyone.
