JOHNSTOWN, Colo. (AP) — Farmers and rural lawmakers are continuing to protest in hopes of persuading Colorado’s governor to veto a bill that could increase energy prices in rural Colorado.

The protesters are headed to a truck stop Wednesday in northern Colorado to ask Gov. John Hickenlooper to veto the bill. The bill ratchets up the amount of electricity that must come from renewable sources in rural areas, putting them closer to the higher standard required by utilities in more populated areas.

The bill’s opponents fear the renewable energy measure could drive up prices. The governor has not yet announced plans to sign or veto the measure.
