Push To Reduce Drunk Driving Blood Alcohol Limit To .05

DENVER (CBS4)- The National Transportation Safety Board wants to decrease the drunk driving limit from .08 to .05.

Determining how much is too much could get a little tricky if the lower levels are implemented.

Those convicted of driving under the influence can face fines, jail time, community service and legal fees. It all adds up to more than $10,000.

According to the Blood Alcohol Calculator, a woman who weighs 150 pounds and drinks a 12-ounce beer would have a BAL of .022 within an hour. But if that same woman consumes two beers her BAL jumps to .062 which would be over the proposed limits.

By comparison a man who weighs 190 pounds and drinks two beers would have a BLA of .045 within an hour.
