Denver Police Shoot, Kill Man On South Federal Boulevard

DENVER (CBS4) - Denver police shot and killed a man who was waving a gun Tuesday evening.

Emergency teams responded to a call in front of 2600 South Federal Boulevard of a suicidal person. When they arrived they found a man waving a gun at firefighters.

Officers attempted to use non-lethal force to get him to put the gun down, but the man didn't respond.

"The male party was still waving the gun around, the did attempt to use less lethal, male party did not respond to that at that time officers did fire," said Denver Police Department spokeswoman Raquel Lopez.

Concerned for public safety, officers shot the man. He was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

It's not clear how many officers fired their weapons.

A reverse 911 call was made telling people to stay in their homes. It's not clear how many homes were contacted.

The suspect's hasn't been released.
