Man Found Dead In Vehicle In Denny's Parking Lot

DENVER (CBS4) - Police in Denver are investigating a suspicious death after a man was found dead in a Denny's restaurant parking lot near Sports Authority Field at Mile High.

According to police, officers responded to a call about a vehicle with a bullet hole in the parking lot of the Denny's located at 1605 Federal Boulevard just after 6:30 a.m. Sunday. When officers arrived they found a white GMC Yukon with a bullet hole in the driver's side and the man dead in the driver's seat.

It's not clear if the man had been shot or if the bullet came from inside or outside of the Yukon.

Lt. Matt Murray with Denver police said Saturday night Denny's employees saw a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot. It was there overnight. Employees decided to call police the next morning. Denny's was open all night.

CBS4's Howard Nathan was on hand when family members arrived at the scene to grieve.

"We're all sleeping comfortable while this poor guy's there overnight, it's nothing nice to see," said Mary Saiz, who lives in the neighborhood. "I can't believe this is going on. I didn't hear anything last night."

Two surveillance cameras are pointed in the parking lot where the shooting took place. If the cameras were recording, they may help police determine exactly how the man died.

The coroner's office is expected to confirm the identity of the man Monday morning.
