Draft Air Quality Permit For New Uranium Mill

DENVER (AP) — Colorado health officials have written draft air-quality permits for what would be the first new uranium mill in the U.S. in more than 30 years.

The state health department's air pollution control division says it has made a preliminary determination of approval for the permits sought by Energy Fuels Resources Corp. The company was granted a radioactive materials license for the proposed Pinon Ridge mill last week.

The draft permits are subject to a public notice period through June 1, when people can comment on whether the proposed uranium and vanadium mill can meet standards and regulations.

Energy Fuels hasn't said when it might begin construction on the mill. Uranium prices have fallen sharply since Energy Fuels first proposed building it.
