I-25 Closure Disrupts Travel Near Colorado-Wyoming Border

WELLINGTON, Colo. (CBS4)- The closure of both directions of Interstate 25 near the Colorado-Wyoming border kept drivers waiting for several hours on Tuesday.

The Colorado State Patrol shut down I-25 on Tuesday because of blowing snow and adverse driving conditions.

Dozens of semi trucks and other vehicles waited out the closure for conditions to improve.

"We haven't heard anything on the radio and online just shut down because of adverse conditions," said one driver. "Probably going to turn back around and go home. If I can get back home."

"It can get to where you can't drive on it. The winds shoot 40-50-60 miles an hour. But I think the blowing snow is the bad thing for a while," said another driver.

State Troopers said conditions for road closures are evaluated on an individual basis.

"It's kind of one of those things as it goes. Depends on visibility, road conditions, vehicles. We just kind of take it on a case by case basis," said one state trooper.

"The roads are definitely snow covered and icy. Slower speeds definitely should be advised."

The Colorado State Patrol reopened all lanes of I-25 at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
