DeGette Gaffe Over High-Capacity Magazines Raises Eyebrows

DENVER (CBS4)- A gaffe about gun magazines by Colorado Congresswoman Diana DeGette has raised some eyebrows.

Rep. DeGette is the lead sponsor of a bill that would ban high-capacity magazines.

Her comments at a Denver Post forum has some people on both sides of the aisle concerned if she knows how those magazines work.

DeGette incorrectly claimed that once the bullets are fired the magazines are thrown out.

"If you ban them in the future the number of these high-capacity magazines is going to decrease dramatically over time because the bullets will have been shot and there won't be any more available," said DeGette.

In fact magazines can be reloaded and reused.

A spokesperson for DeGette actually compounded the situation by stating the congresswoman was confusing magazines with clips. Most ammo clips can be reused as well.
