Deputies Have Leads After Woman Found Shot To Death In Her Car

ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - A woman was found shot to death in her own car early Sunday morning in Adams County.

A sheriff's deputy noticed a suspicious vehicle pulled over at the intersection of 52nd and Pecos Street just before 6 a.m. Sunday.

Neighbors say they heard rapid gun shots between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. Just a few hours later they awoke to sheriff's deputies, crime scene tape, and the Adams County coroner surrounding the area.

"There was a red Ford SUV in the parking lot and there was a lady inside," said Zach Rucero, who works at Lucero & Son's Restaurant where the vehicle was found. "The driver's window was shot out and the officer said there was a young girl that was shot."

According to the sheriff's office, the woman was slumped over in the driver's seat with a gunshot wound.

"The female has not been identified but we are treating this as a homicide," Sgt. Paul Gregory with the Adams County Sheriff's Office said.

Gregory says witnesses and evidence at the scene of the crime have led investigators on a hunt for a suspect.

"The investigators are going to be working very hard today and throughout the week to follow up on those leads," he said.

Few details have been released and the case remains under investigation.

"I don't know how you can shoot somebody and go on with your life knowing that you killed somebody," Rucero said.
