PUEBLO, Colo. (CBS4) – Police say a man murdered his wife in front of their children and then minutes later the suspect died in a motorcycle crash.

The killing happened just before 1 a.m. at a home in the 1100 block of Mass Street on the east side of Pueblo. The deadly motorcycle crash was less than 15 minutes later on Highway 50 near Baxter Street.

Neighbors say the couple’s three children witnessed the horrific attack and tried to get help.

Police say Adeline Whitehead, 34, was stabbed to death by Roy Whitehead, 35. Neighbors heard the children scream.

“The little boy kept saying, ‘He put a machete to my neck, he put a machete to my neck and he’s stabbing my mom,’ ” a neighbor said.

One neighbor said the oldest boy knocked on doors pleading for help while the father sped off on his motorcycle. Police said Roy Whitehead was on Highway 50 near Baxter Street when the motorcycle crashed into an electrical box and fence. He died at the scene.

The young children are now staying with relatives.
