Pregnant Woman Injured By Hit & Run Driver On Broadway

DENVER (CBS4) - Denver police would like the public's help locating the driver of a car who rear-ended a pregnant woman.

The incident happened Saturday at 13th and Broadway sometime after 10 p.m. The pregnant woman was driving south on Broadway when her car was rear-ended. She got out of her car to examine the damage. At that point police say the car that hit her car then hit her while she was standing on the street.

"People drive pretty crazy because they have four lanes, and the lights are usually green, so a lot of people can go 40 or 50 miles per hour," Denver resident Jacob Ray said.

Last September a woman was killed attempting to cross Broadway near Cedar. Police say the driver was driving well above the limit.

"According to the video it appears the car is doing at least double the speed limit of the vehicles that happened to be involved in the general area, so roughly 60, 65," Detective Dave Carroll said in September.

Last December a man in a fight was hit by oncoming traffic at Broadway and 11th.

Ray is not surprised by the accidents and incidents. He works in a sandwich shop on Broadway, but puts some of the blame for the danger on the pedestrians.

"Most people do not use the crosswalks and they just kind of run across the street real quick," jay said. "I'd be lying if I said I hadn't done it a few times, but that's just how it is down here."

Bobby Rathore has been running a liquor business for 16 years on Broadway. He says the traffic has been increasing along with the close calls and accidents. He says both drivers and pedestrians are being reckless.

The pregnant woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries, but there's no word on the status of her unborn child.

Police are looking for a white Volkswagen sedan with a possible Colorado license plate number of 375-IZE. Anyone with information is asked to call police.
