DENVER (AP) — Colorado lawmakers are considering a Republican proposal to ban abortions and make it a crime to perform them.
Lawmakers heard testimony Thursday on the bill, but a vote on the proposal was delayed until Tuesday so every lawmaker in the committee can vote. Democrats who oppose the measure control the committee, and the bill is expected to fail.
The legislation would ban abortions in Colorado and make it a class 3 felony to perform one.
The bill would exempt cases where a doctor performs an abortion to prevent the death of the mother and when an unborn child dies accidentally during medical treatment.
