AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (AP) — The Air Force Academy cadet responsible for enforcing the school’s honor code has resigned from the position, saying his decision to invite some cadets to a meeting of an honor panel looked bad.
Academy officials said Tuesday that senior Derek Travis, the Cadet Wing honor chairman, thought the invitation might lead to “potential perceptions” that he damaged the integrity of the honor code system.
Travis had invited some unidentified cadets to attend an honor board, a panel that determines whether an honor code violation has taken place.
Academy commanders say Travis wasn’t attempting to do anything dishonorable and they praised him for his decision.
Travis remains a student at the academy.
The academy honor code states, “We will not lie, steal, or cheat, nor tolerate among us anyone who does.”
