ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) – Arapahoe County sheriff’s deputies arrested a man who they say broke into a substation and tried to steal their weapons.
Phillip Thomas Brown, 41, is facing charges of criminal mischief, obstruction and burglary.
Deputies arrived at the substation just after midnight Saturday. There they found a broken windowpane and the suspect was inside. When deputies called the substation, they say Brown answered the phone by saying, “Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office.”
Police also say Brown was holding a department ballistic shield over this chest as he tried to open a gun safe.
Investigators say Brown told them he broke into the building because he is homeless and has the flu.
