Pedestrian Critical After Hit-And-Run Involving Several Cars

DENVER (CBS4) - A man is in the hospital in critical condition after a hit-and-run.

The crime happened just before 10 p.m. Thursday night. The man was crossing Florida Street when he was hit by three different cars.

One vehicle wound up stopping a few blocks away from the accident and another was found nearby. Police are still looking for one of the cars involved. That vehicle was described as being a dark-colored 2004 or 2005 Subaru Impreza WX.

There are some witness accounts of the accident, and there are even a handful of surveillance cameras that monitor the intersection. It's not the best-lit intersection on the street, but light enough where police were able to identify the make and model of the car. That was also determined by evidence at the scene.

The driver's side mirror is missing on that car and there is damage to the driver's side.

"We'd like the public to know that if a neighbor comes back missing that side mirror; it's also going to have some damage on the driver's side," Sgt. Brian Conover with Denver police said.

Police said the victim is a man in his 20s. His name hasn't been released. He was crossing the street illegally.

Police said if the driver had stopped, the possible charges wouldn't be as high.

"What might have been a misdemeanor, or might not have been a crime at all; you've gone into a felony because you did not stop, you did not render aid," Sonny Jackson said. "So had you stopped, had you rendered aid, it may not have even been a crime."

Police said it's not clear if the victim will survive his injuries.
