2 Dead In Freak Car Crash In Skiing Parking Lot Near Grand Junction

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) - Authorities say two pedestrians are dead after being hit by an SUV in a freak accident near Grand Junction.

State Patrol spokeswoman Cpl. Heather Cobler says the crash occurred shortly before noon Saturday in the parking lot of a popular cross-country skiing area on Grand Mesa.

The Daily Sentinel of Grand Junction reports that the SUV was traveling along Colorado Highway 65 when it swerved to avoid hitting a vehicle that was making a left turn from the right shoulder in front of the SUV.

Cobler tells the paper that the then SUV lost control and went into the parking area at the County Line winter trail head and hit the two pedestrians.

The pedestrians, whose identities have not yet been released, died at the scene. No one else was injured.
