2 More Suspects Arrested In Waldo Canyon Fire Thefts

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4)- Two more suspects have been arrested, accused of stealing from evacuated homes during the Waldo Canyon Fire.

David Town and Alexis Mendez have been linked to burglaries in two town homes. Police believe they may be responsible for others but have yet to file charges in other cases.

The two men were arrested on Thursday after another suspect who pleaded guilty in the burglaries implicated Town and Mendez.

"I could understand if they had burned down but to have somebody break in is a slap not only in my face but in my buddy's face that was burglarized. I'm hoping they get a lot more than just two. I want my neighbors to be vindicated as well," said burglary victim Ken Patterson.

"You know, you don't take advantage of a bad situation, which, definitely, we were taken advantage of," said another burglarized homeowner.

Police investigated more than 80 burglaries during homeowners' evacuation from the Waldo Canyon Fire. One woman's vehicle was even stolen out of her locked garage.

The Waldo Canyon Fire destroyed more than 300 homes in the Colorado Springs area this past summer.
