Get The Most When Selling An Old iPhone

DENVER (CBS4) - Apple's new iPhone 5 hit stores on Friday and fans lined up to be among the first to have the much-coveted smartphone, including at the apple store in Aspen Grove.

Copter4 flew over the store a couple hours before it opened, and even before the sun came up dozens of people were waiting in line.

4 On Your Side Money Saver Suzanne McCarroll wanted to know how to get the most money when selling an old iPhone and found there are a lot of options out there.

There are all sorts of online sites where people can sell phones. Craigslist, Gazelle.com and local stores welcome older models.

Kevin Hart admits he's an iPhone addict. Before his iPhone 5 has even arrived, he was listing his iPhone 4 on Craigslist.

"I'm asking for $250. I'll go as low as $200," he said.

McCarroll did a cost comparison of several online sites. Gazelle.com will buy an iPhone 4 for $96 up to $174, depending on the condition and if it's an eight gigabyte or a 32 gigabyte.

eBay prices start at $120 and go up to $200 for the same range of phones. Usell.com advertises prices of $115 up to $176 for the iPhone 4. At Action Computers in Denver the range is similar, but there are some really valuable free perks when selling a phone there.

"A service that we offer for free is securely wiping all of your data so that you know when your phone goes on to the next person, there's no way they can get your data," Mark Hope with Action Computers said. "Just deleting things doesn't necessarily wipe them."

Hart is convinced he'll sell his iPhone 4 for more than $200 on Craigslist, which means he's already paid for his iPhone 5 before it even arrives.
