Greeley Man Sentenced 10 Years To Life For Sexually Assaulting Teen

GREELEY, Colo. (CBS4)- A Greeley man has been sentenced 10 years to life in the Department of Corrections for sexually assaulting a teenager during a party.

Javier Esparza was sentenced on Thursday for sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl during a party on Aug. 31, 2008.

A jury convicted Esparza, 23, in May on one count of sexual assault- overcoming a victim's will and sex assault on a victim who was incapable of appraising her conduct.

The indeterminate sentence means that Esparza was sentenced to serve a minimum of 10 years in prison. His release date will be decided by the Department of Corrections but he could remain in prison for the rest of his life.

Justin Mireles of Greeley, was convicted on the same charges for also sexually assaulting the same victim at the party.
