George Hamilton Brings His Latest Role To The Buell Theater

DENVER (CBS4) - From "All The Fine Young Cannibals" to "Zorro, The Gay Blade" and "The Godfather Part III," George Hamilton has had a varied career on the big screen. He's also worked extensively in TV and live theater.

CBS4 Critic at Large Greg Moody talked with Hamilton as he brings his latest musical comedy role to the Buell Theater.

When Hamilton walks on stage as George in "La Cage Aux Folles," he knows what the audience is waiting for.

"What they expect of me is really a tan, teeth, and always smiling," Hamilton said.

But what he's going to give them beyond the teeth and the tan is a memorable experience. He sets the plot in motion and provides the calm center to the comic hurricane; and he gives the audience permission to have a good time.

"We've driven all this way, we had a quick drink, we got in here Friday night, I worked all week, but we're going to have fun now," Hamilton said.

What he loves most about the revamped script and score is it's broken down to the essence of the story.

"It's about love, about being who you are, being faithful to that, and family," he said.

It lets Hamilton and costar Christopher Sieber bring home both the heart and the humor at the center of the story.

"La Cage Aux Folles" opens next Tuesday, Sept. 4 and runs through Sept. 16 at the Buell Theater. It is a revamped version of the classic musical. Tickets start at $25, but those go fast.
