Heavy Rain Damages Bridge South Of Florence

MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Heavy rain has damaged a bridge near Florence.

Meanwhile to the north, authorities are warning people around the area burned by the Waldo Canyon wildfire to watch for possible flooding and mudslides triggered by thunderstorms this week.

Part of Colorado 67 south of Florence was closed Tuesday night after the bridge started to wash out.

That came after mudslides triggered by rain that started Monday temporarily shut down U.S. 24 west of Colorado Springs through Tuesday morning. The mud on the roadway east of Cascade was five feet deep and trapped a pickup truck. No one was hurt. El Paso County sheriff's Lt. Jeff Kramer said two homes in Green Mountain Falls also suffered significant flooding damage. They are in an area downhill from the 28-square-mile area burned in June.
