DENVER (CBS4)- It’s not your typical urban garden but Denver’s Big Blue Bear is now keeping a close eye on his own garden.
Mayor Michael Hancock got a tour of the gardne at the Colorado Convention Center Tuesday.
The garden covers 5,000 square feet and the hope is one day to grow 5,000 pounds of fruit and vegetables a year.
Then the caterers at the Convention Center will harvest and serve it up.
“This blue bear farm is a perfect explain of how Denver sees iniative as building a fresh food economy that will create jobs from plant to plate,” Mayor Hancock said.
Centerplate is the hospitality partner of the Convention Center and eventually hopes to also have classes on growing fruits and vegetables as well as cooking with them.
The garden is said to be the largest urban garden connected to a convention center in the nation.
