DENVER (CBS4) – Denver police on Wednesday arrested a person suspected of shooting at an officer during a traffic stop.

Detective John White with Denver police said an officer made a traffic stop on southbound Interstate 25 just north of Speer Boulevard around noon. The officer then noticed an altercation between two people in the car. One of the suspects fired a gun in the direction of the officer.

One of the suspects exited the vehicle and fled on foot while the other suspect fled in the vehicle onto northbound Speer, lost control, and then tried to carjack another vehicle.

Both suspects are in custody and a weapon was recovered.

The incident forced the closure of I-25 at Speer for a while, causing major delays.
